  • A Buyer’s Guide to Choosing the Right Automatic Door

    Contributed by FSM Staff

CLEVELAND, OH -- The American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers has released an updated Door Selection Guide to help building owners, facility managers, architects, and other stakeholders choose the right automatic door solution for their applications.

Titled “Smart Entrance Systems: A Buyer’s Guide to Choosing the Right Automatic Door for User Experience, Accessibility, and Operational Efficiency,” the guide is available now as a free download.

This is the first major revision of the automatic door selection guide in many years. It factors in changing demands involving sustainability, universal access, and safety and security. The guide is intended to help decision-makers ask the right questions before a product is selected and better understand the choices available to them. Broken down into five steps, it helps match the right kind of automatic door technology with the objectives of a specific entrance.

Today’s automatic entrance systems offer capabilities that weren’t available when many existing systems were installed. The selection guide encourages users to consider the entrance within the context of the building’s larger operation — how it needs to perform, who will use it, and what the building needs from it — before making a decision.

The guide also explores the real-life circumstances that can influence a successful selection, from how people move through an entrance to the technologies and design considerations that can affect performance over the life of the building. Readers will also gain insights into the advances that have changed automatic entrance systems in recent years, as well as considerations that may be easy to overlook when specifying a system.

The guide also emphasizes that selecting an entrance system is only part of the process. Installation, inspection and ongoing care can all contribute to the safe, reliable performance of an automatic entrance over its service life.

Whether planning a new construction project, evaluating an upcoming renovation, or simply looking to better understand today’s automatic entrance options, building professionals can use the guide as a starting point for making more informed decisions.
