  • NSC Labor Division Raises Funds for Hunger Relief

    Contributed by FSM Staff

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The National Safety Council Labor Division raised more than $3,000 for Second Helpings, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit, during its fall meeting on Sept. 14 at the 2026 NSC Safety Congress & Expo. Funds came from Division-participating union locals and individual contributions.

Second Helpings collects surplus food from wholesalers, retailers and restaurants to provide more than 5,500 nutritious meals every day for people in need throughout Central Indiana. The organization also provides culinary job training designed to help individuals gain skills and pursue sustainable careers in the food service industry.

“Union labor is built on solidarity, teamwork and looking out for one another. By coming together to support Second Helpings, we can put those values into action by helping provide meals, strengthen the Indianapolis community and build a better future," said Allen Sloan, vice chair of the NSC Labor Division.

The NSC Labor Division unites union-based safety personnel and government regulators with a focus on safety, health and environmental concerns across industries. The division works through 13 specialized committees that address construction, transportation, ergonomics and industrial safety.

The NSC Labor Division meets twice yearly in locations across the nation. Register or learn more about the 2027 NSC Labor Division spring meeting.
