WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Safety Council announced its participation in the National Serious Injury and Fatality Prevention Alliance, a collaborative initiative formed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to reduce incidents and deaths in the workplace by providing employers with training and resources to help identify and eliminate high-risk hazards.

The Alliance establishes a partnership between OSHA, NSC and several other organizations working to advance serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention, including the American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Society of Safety Professionals and the University of Colorado Boulder’s Construction Safety Research Alliance.
“For more than half a century, the National Safety Council and OSHA have worked together to prevent injuries and save lives in our nation’s workplaces. The National SIF Prevention Alliance represents a historic evolution in how we achieve that shared mission. As we move together toward proactively addressing the conditions that can lead to the most serious outcomes, we can begin to prevent tragedies before they occur,” said Lorraine Martin, NSC CEO. “Preventing serious incidents and fatalities requires a deliberate focus on the risks with the greatest potential to cause harm. By bringing together OSHA, NSC and leading safety organizations, this Alliance can help employers turn knowledge into action and ultimately save lives.”
Building on the Council’s broader commitment to advance SIF prevention, the National SIF Prevention Alliance unites safety organizations and stakeholders to advance the identification and prevention of SIFs in the workplace. Participants will collaborate to develop and disseminate SIF prevention resources, effective practices, training and practical solutions for employers, workers and safety professionals.
