MONTABAUR, DE -- SAFELOG has confirmed the safety engineering quality of its mobile transport robots: several of the manufacturer's device series now meet the strict requirements of Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
Certification to UL 3100 and CAN/UL 3100 not only opens up new market potential in the United States and Canada, it also puts the company's work with partners such as TGW Logistics and SEW-Eurodrive on a firmer footing.
UL 3100 is one of the defining North American standards for automated mobile platforms. It assesses a device's electrical and mechanical safety in full. That includes the safe design of battery and charging systems as well as optimal braking behavior. Detailed requirements for enclosure design and material thickness must also be met, along with a flammability rating in accordance with UL 94. Safety-related functions such as emergency stop, obstacle detection, and behavior in the event of a technical malfunction are tested as well.
S3, M4 and L2: high-performance models with verified safety
Following the S3 and M4 models certified earlier, the SAFELOG L2 has now also passed the required inspections and tests. Robots in the SAFELOG S3 series are compact and can turn on the spot within a diameter of less than 90 centimeters (approx. 35 inches). The robots in the SAFELOG M4 series are similarly maneuverable and agile. In addition, they offer high starting torque and can carry heavy loads as a top load or tow them on trolleys. The L2 product line is particularly well suited for use as an assembly platform and for transporting pallets and wire mesh containers. Their omnidirectional travel is an advantage above all where space is tight.
With the certification, the three models now meet all safety-related requirements for use in the United States and Canada. “UL 3100 certification gives users legal certainty and reduces risk, because the safety engineering has been assessed by an independent body,” says Mathias Behounek, Managing Director of SAFELOG. For the mobile robot manufacturer, the certification is far more than a formal step. It creates transparency about tested safety functions, material requirements, and operating limits, and it simplifies integration into industrial environments. For cooperation with partners such as TGW Logistics and SEW-Eurodrive in particular, this establishes a clearly defined and normatively secured safety basis. UL 3100 reduces the regulatory coordination effort and makes commissioning on the shop floor easier. At the same time, it matches the quality and compliance standard that SAFELOG applies consistently across all projects. Beyond that, it paves the way for targeted expansion in the American market. |
