  • NSC Recognizes Employers in Texas for Traffic Safety Excellence

    DALLAS, TX -- The National Safety Council has announced the winners of the 2026 Our Driving Concern Texas Employer Traffic Safety Awards, which honor organizations for their firm commitment to roadway safety for their employees and all roadway users.

    Transportation incidents were the leading cause of fatal workplace injuries in Texas in 2024, accounting for 43 percent of occupational fatalities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    The following 11 employers were recognized by NSC for their demonstrated leadership, employee engagement, measurable safety outcomes and innovative approaches to roadway safety:

    Distinguished Excellence in Traffic Safety
    CapMetro
    A public transportation provider for Austin and Central Texas for over four decades, CapMetro emphasizes safety not only as a guideline but as a core value. The transportation provider has invested in telematics, championed employee wellness and made other impactful strides to keep its employees and communities safe.

    SNF Oil & Gas
    SNF Oil & Gas leverages innovative practices to yield measurable breakthroughs in strengthening roadway safety for its employees and others on the road. Through focused company-wide efforts and a robust safety culture, the Odessa-based manufacturer makes health and safety a top value in everything it does.

    Excellence in Traffic Safety
    City of Arlington
    The City of Arlington demonstrates its strong commitment to protecting its communities on the road through proactive strategies and procedures. The city continues to make impactful infrastructure investments and implement comprehensive safety solutions, making its employees and commuters safer for each trip ahead.

    City of San Antonio
    The City of San Antonio’s comprehensive approach to roadway safety is fueled by a resilient safety culture shared by its leaders and stakeholders. Through cross-functional collaboration, investments in innovative solutions, and employee engagement and recognition, the City of San Antonio reinforces safety as a guiding principle.

    Star Shuttle
    Safety is a long-standing value for the San Antonio-based limousine and charter bus service provider. Star Shuttle continues to demonstrate this commitment to roadway safety – mandating thorough training, driving stakeholder synergy and other dynamic safety initiatives. 

    Innovation in Traffic Safety Practices
    Prosper Independent School District
    With a swift uptick in students and faculty, the Prosper Independent School District doesn’t take the safety implications that come with new faces lightly. By spotlighting every voice, utilizing robust safety measures and incorporating innovative ways to strengthen safety culture, Prosper ISD aptly motivates everyone to remember what is important – health and safety.

    Employee Engagement in Traffic Safety
    R.E.A.L. Inc.
    For R.E.A.L. Inc., the Rural Economic Assistance League, safety is always the focus. A nonprofit focused on providing quality community-centered services to older adults, people with disabilities and those in need of transportation assistance, R.E.A.L. Inc. uses effective, holistic measures supported by employee input to always put safety at the forefront of everything it does.

    Rockwall Independent School District
    As one of the larger school districts in Texas, leadership at Rockwall Independent School District understood that safeguarding its students, faculty and other roadway users would require carefully planned and executed strategies. Rockwall ISD developed a comprehensive safety action plan, strengthened its training protocol and continues to recognize stakeholder impact and provide innovative resources that underscore student safety and wellbeing.

    Safety Metric Excellence
    City of Mont Belvieu
    The City of Mont Belvieu demonstrates a firm commitment to traffic safety through best practices and organization-wide participation. Safety leaders at the city emphasize a proactive approach to safety through data-driven procedures, training and fostering a strong safety culture.

    Small Employer Distinguished Excellence in Traffic Safety
    JR Ramon Demolition
    JR Ramon Demolition uses impactful strategies to keep its employees and all roadway users safe on the road. Emphasizing Vision Zero values, JR Ramon Demolition shows that even with significant accomplishments, safety is an ongoing journey where continuous improvement is key. 

    Small Employer Excellence in Traffic Safety
    BASS
    BASS Engineering prioritizes continuous safety improvement by underscoring training, coaching and performance monitoring to strengthen safe driving practices for its fleet. By identifying trends and taking action to address risks, the company reinforces a culture where safety is a focal point of day-to-day operations.

    “Creating safer roadways requires more than policies and procedures — it also includes a commitment to improvement at every level of an organization,” said Cody Stewart, senior program manager of the Our Driving Concern program at NSC. “These award recipients exemplify how that commitment can not only protect employees but everyone on the road.”

    Managed by the National Safety Council, the Our Driving Concern program emphasizes employee training, ongoing safety education and communication to promote safe driving behaviors and make the roads safer for everyone.
