  • ASSP Honors Wyatt Bradbury as Safety Professional of the Year

    Contributed by FSM Staff

PARK RIDGE, IL -- The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) named Wyatt Bradbury, CSP, CHST, CIT, as its 2026 Safety Professional of the Year. Bradbury is the principal of health and safety at Avetta® and an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He influences the environmental health and safety (EHS) industry through research, consensus standards and practical application to advance how organizations measure safety performance.

Bradbury is honored for his exceptional leadership and technical expertise in driving workplace safety toward proactive, leading indicator-based safety strategies, including his work on Avetta’s Safety Maturity Index and Cultural Maturity Index. These tools are the first real-world example of how consensus standards can be embedded into enterprise technology to benchmark culture and operational resilience.

Prior to Avetta, Bradbury was at Hitachi Rail, where he oversaw major infrastructure projects throughout the Americas and led the implementation of ISO 45001, an international standard that specifies requirements for occupational health and safety management systems; developed audit and compliance programs; and strengthened safety culture through leadership engagement and workforce involvement.

An active member of the Society for nearly a decade, Bradbury has served on numerous ASSP standards committees, including the subcommittee for ANSI TR-Z590.6-23: Guidance on Personal Protective Equipment for Women and co-represents Avetta on the ANSI Z16 committee, which maintains the ANSI/ASSP Z16.1-2022, Safety and Health Metrics Performance Measures standard. Bradbury also supports emerging safety professionals to foster continued growth across the industry.

“I thank Wyatt for his many contributions to advancing workplace safety,” says Linda Tapp, CSP, ALCM, CPTD, president, ASSP. “His work is driving innovative, data-informed solutions that help organizations evaluate and strengthen their safety systems to reduce serious injuries and fatalities. Just as importantly, his commitment to mentoring the next generation of safety professionals is helping shape the future of our field.”

The Safety Professional of the Year Award is presented annually to an ASSP member who demonstrates outstanding achievement in the EHS industry, while also advancing the profession overall.

Bradbury will be recognized at ASSP’s Safety 2026 conference on June 14 in Anaheim, California.
