WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) welcomed the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) as a new Safe-in-Sound Award partner. AIHA joins existing partners, the National Hearing Conservation Association and the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation.
The new partnership was announced earlier this month at the 50th annual Hearing Conservation Association annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas.
"AIHA's involvement will help to expand the influence of the Safe-in-Sound Award among the industrial hygiene community, strengthening the award's outreach and promoting improved working conditions through exceptional hearing loss prevention practices," said NIOSH Director John Howard, M.D.
Since the Safe-in-Sound Award was established, information on real-world success in noise control and other interventions for hearing loss prevention has been widely disseminated through the award website and other media. You can find information on the 2026 award winners here.
Many interventions by previous Award winners have eliminated the need for hearing conservation programs or reduced the number of workers enrolled in them. The Safe-in-Sound Award has also extended successful hearing loss prevention strategies to workers not typically included in workplace hearing loss prevention programs, such as musicians, military personnel and workers in services and construction.
Nominations are now open for the 2027 Safe-in-Sound Award. You can send an email to nominations@safeinsound.us to get a nomination started.
