WASHINGTON, DC -- In anticipation of Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April, the National Safety Council is partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards to host a free, three-part webinar series to educate and equip public sector professionals on reducing the risks of distracted driving.
The series, which will be held on Feb. 12, March 12 and April 9, 2025, aims to bring together safety advocates and employers for focused, technical training and discussion on this urgent public safety issue.
“Every day, lives are needlessly lost due to distracted driving,” said Mark Chung, executive vice president of safety leadership and advocacy at NSC. “Through this series, we’re not only addressing the behavioral side of the issue but reinforcing a Safe System Approach — an inclusive framework that considers all factors to reduce and eventually eliminate crashes altogether.”
Each year, more than 3,000 people die in crashes involving distracted drivers, while countless others suffer life-altering injuries. These incidents are preventable but continue to occur due to various distractions, with mobile device use as one of the leading contributors. Through this webinar series, NSC and the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards aim to provide public sector participants with actionable strategies to mitigate these risks.
Participants will receive live, interactive training moderated by NSC, followed by individually accessed, self-paced online training to further reinforce key strategies to reduce distractions while driving. Each session will conclude with a Q&A, allowing participants to address questions and concerns about road safety.
“While at work, employees are often on the move while simultaneously trying to multitask. The problem is these distractions are especially dangerous while driving and can be deadly,” said Michael Flanagan, director of the Department of Labor Standards. “We’re committed to improving road safety through education, and this webinar series is another way we’re working towards ensuring everyone returns home safely each day.”
Distracted Driving Awareness Month, observed every April, is a critical time to engage employers, individuals and communities in reducing and preventing distractions behind the wheel. For more information on the observance, please visit nsc.org/justdrive. |
