  • SFPE Announces Ten Members Elevated to Highest Fellow Status

    GAITHERSBURG, MD -- The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the professional society for fire protection and fire safety engineering, announces its 2024 class of Fellows and award recipients.

    Fellow membership represents the highest professional honor of SFPE and is bestowed to individuals who have amassed significant accomplishments and stature in fire protection engineering. SFPE members elevated to the status of Fellow in 2024 include:

    • Dr Brian Ashe, CEng, CPEng, FSFPE, FIEAust, MIFireE, MSaRS, FSFPE

    • Chris Butts, PE AET, SET, CFPS, ARM, FSFPE

    • John F. Devlin, PE, FSFPE

    • Kiyoshi Fukui, FSFPE

    • Don Hopkins, Jr., PE, FSFPE

    • Charles Joyce, PE, CET, FSFPE

    • Brian Y. Lattimer, Ph.D., FASME, FSFPE

    • Seth Sienkiewicz, PE, FSFPE

    • Michael Spearpoint, BSc, MS, PhD, MIFireE, CEng, FSFPE

    • Gabriele Vigne, Ph.D, FSFPE

    The SFPE “5 Under 35” recipients represent the industry’s top rising leaders who give back to both the fire protection engineering profession and the community. The 2024 recipients are as follows:

    Additionally, SFPE is pleased to announce ten award recipients in 2024, as follows:

    • Jack Poole, PE, FSFPE, recipient of the SFPE Ahern President’s Award
    • Bryan Hoskins, Ph.D., PE, recipient of the SFPE Bryan Mentoring Award
    • David Grossmann, recipient of the SFPE Lund Award for Professional Recognition
    • Greg Baker, PhD, FIEAust, CPEng, FMSFPE, recipient of the SFPE Nelson Award for Inspired Service
    • J. Sargent "Sarge" Slicer, FSFPE, recipient of the SFPE Jensen Award for Outstanding Committee Service
    • Morgan Hurley, PE, FSFPE, recipient of the SFPE Lucht Award for Contributions to Education
    • Ed Ruckriegel, recipient of the SFPE Fire Protection Person of the Year Award
    • David Stacy, PE, recipient of the SFPE Trailblazer Award
    • Derek Gruchy, M.A.Sc., C.E.T., Fellow OACETT, recipient of the SFPE Spotlight Award
    • Dustin Stokes, PE, recipient of the SFPE Spotlight Award
    • Michael A. Crowley, PE, FSFPE, recipient of the SFPE Spotlight Award
    • Tracy Franklin-Williams, recipient of the SFPE Spotlight Award

    "Annually, we celebrate SFPE members whose outstanding achievements have significantly advanced our profession and Society. Their contributions have played a crucial role in enhancing the science and technology aimed at mitigating global fire risks," said Chris Jelenewicz, PE, FSFPE, Chief Executive Officer, Society of Fire Protection Engineers. "We are immensely thankful for their leadership and unwavering commitment to SFPE and the fire protection engineering community."

    The awards will be presented by Bob Libby, PE, FSFPE, SFPE President, during the SFPE Annual Conference & Expo in Louisville, KY, USA, on October 6-8, 2024; registration for the conference is available at sfpe.org/annual24. Nominations for the Society’s 2025 class of Fellows and award recipients will be solicited in early 2025.
