BIRMINGHAM, AL -- National Employee Health and Fitness Day is observed on the third Wednesday of May in the U.S. This year, it falls on May 15. It was established to raise awareness of the health benefits of physical activity among employees through company-sponsored health promotion activities.

This year the 2024 Birmingham Corporate Challenge, presented by Hibbett | City Gear, over 50 Birmingham-based businesses will compete in a field day-style event while raising money for the event’s newest philanthropic partner, Children’s of Alabama. Employees are warming up their throwing arm for dodgeball, their fast facts for trivia, golf swing and more ahead of the 2024 Corporate Challenge events June 12-15.
Birmingham Corporate Challenge allows the corporate community to show off their competitive
sides, while also building company culture and networking with other Birmingham businesses.
Companies who register will be placed in one of three divisions based on their company size
and compete in various head to head competitions such as dodgeball and tug-of-war. The event
also features events that encourage company participation to earn points for their team.
“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has enjoyed being both a sponsor and participant in
BCC over the years,” said Tim King, Manager - Community Relations, Blue Cross and Blue Shield
of Alabama. “It is so much fun to compete in the events, and the comradery & team spirit are
fantastic. Many of our folks bring their families and make it a whole day of games, food and
fellowship. We have placed second and third in our division and our goal is to get that first place
trophy!”
Last year, 1,715 participants from over 50 companies competed in over 4,800 events. This event
has raised over $40,000 in previous years for the event’s philanthropic partner. Funds raised this
year will directly support Children’s of Alabama’s mission; provide the finest pediatric health
services to all children in an environment that fosters excellence in research and medical
education.
"Each year, Gray team members eagerly anticipate the Birmingham Corporate Challenge, fueled
by our shared passion for community, the thrill of competition, and the camaraderie we share,”
said Stephanie Crane, Gray Project Engineer and Corporate Challenge team captain. “We hold
fun practice events and encourage each other, aiming for excellence, all united by the
excitement of participating together in this annual event."
The 2024 Birmingham Corporate Challenge will take place June 12-15, 2024 at the West
Homewood Athletic Complex.
