WINSTON-SALEM, N.C -- The Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA) participates in the National Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction (May 6-10, 2024) by hosting a hard hat sticker contest and offering the industry free educational resources. Materials can be found at seaa.net/standdown.
This year’s printable poster, “RAD Ideas for Fall Prevention,” is a collection of tips from safety directors employed by SEAA Member Company steel erectors. The tips focus on Research, Awareness, and Delivery.
“There will always be someone who thinks they are invincible and unhook for some reason. Deter this by making safety personal,” says Jon Mosebach, Safety Director, LR Willson & Sons, Gambrills, Maryland.
Other resources available from SEAA cover topics such as:
• Benefits of Elevated Lifelines
• How to Verify Fall Protection Products are ANSI Compliant
• Safe Loading and Unloading of Trailers
• Best Practices for Creating a Fall Protection Plan
In addition, SEAA annually hosts a hard hat sticker contest on social media to create awareness for fall prevention. Selected by SEAA’s Marketing Committee, this year’s winner is Curtis Harmon, QA/QC Manager for Deem Structural Services, Longview, Texas. He chose the theme Proud to be an Ironworker.
Harmon said of his design concept: “I'm a proud ironworker and the crossed spud wrenches are an iconic symbol of our trade. The elevation view of a multistory iron structure (whether on paper or in actuality) is a striking sight, as is the American flag. Combining these two elements along with the crossed spuds represents pride and strength, and structures that stand the test of time.”
Harmon will receive a $100 gift card and 250 hard hat stickers as his prize. The sticker will be offered with other promotional materials to SEAA members that are hosting stand-down events this May.
“We received hard hat sticker designs from ironworkers, safety managers, office personnel, and company executives representing both structural steel and reinforcing steel contractors. The quality of the submissions were excellent and we appreciate the engagement from the steel construction community,” said Chris Legnon, Chairman of SEAA’s Marketing Committee and Vice President, Technology, for Cooper Steel, Shelbyville, Tennessee.
