Automakers, Tech Firms, Advocacy Groups to Launch Education Effort

LAS VEGAS -- A broad coalition of companies from the automotive and technology industries and advocates for safety, mobility and sustainability will announce formation of a coalition to build public understanding of automated vehicles and other advanced technologies.

The event will  be held on Jan. 7 during CES Media Days, and then host a CES keynote panel to be kicked off by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao on Jan. 9.

On Monday, Jan. 7 during CES Media Days, senior executives from coalition participants will discuss the new coalition and answer questions during a news conference at 11 a.m. PST. Executives on hand will include representatives from major automakers, leading tech companies and startups, safety advocates, disability groups, and academic institutions.  Expected participants include:

  *   Debbie Hersman, President and CEO, National Safety Council
*   Mark Del Rosso, President, Audi of America
*   Kyle Vogt, Co-founder, President and Chief Technology Officer, Cruise
*   Bryan Mistele, President and CEO, INRIX
*   Mark Riccobono, President, National Federation of the Blind
*   Danny Shapiro, Senior Director of Automotive, NVIDIA
*   Kelly Kay, Executive Vice President and CFO, Toyota Research Institute
*   Oliver Cameron, Co-Founder and CEO, Voyage
*   Mark Rosekind, Chief Safety Innovation Officer, Zoox

On Wednesday Jan. 9 at CES, automated vehicle technology will take center stage when Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao delivers keynote remarks, followed by an executive keynote panel, “The New Mobility Revolution: Getting Consumers Ready.”  Senior executives from coalition founding member companies will discuss the importance of establishing public trust to ensure that consumers understand the benefits of self-driving vehicles and that deployment of the technology is safe.
